Saint Francis is coming to Burlington after dropping five of their first six games. They most recently wrapped up a trip to Florida where they were toppled by Florida Gulf Coast University and South Florida. The Red Flash are led by first-year head coach Keila Whittington. She takes over a program that has won 12 NEC titles, four more than any other school in the conference.
Three of SFU's starters from last year have returned, including leading scorer Haley Thomas. Thomas was an NEC All-Conference third team selection last year and has started the year averaging 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds to start the year. Defensive star Sam Sabino also returns after grabbing 41 steals last season.Â
Saint Francis is one of five Division I teams that hasn't played a home game this season. The Red Flash are opening this season with seven straight road games. Eastern Washington, Indiana State, Texas Southern, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff are the other four teams.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday will be the second meeting between the Catamounts and Red Flash. UVM defeated SFU 69-63 on December 2, 1988 at the St. Bonaventure Tournament in Olean, NY.

Saint Francis' head coach Keila Whittington was an assistant at Marist College from 2016-2019 and from 2007-2009. From 2016-2018 the Red Foxes' coaching staff featured both Whittington and current UVM assistant coach
Eileen Van Horn.
CATHY INGLESE PATCHES
This season the Catamounts are wearing jersey patches to honor our former Head Coach Cathy Inglese. Inglese was the head coach at Vermont for seven seasons, from 1986 to 1993. She led UVM to unprecedented success with its first two conference titles, in 1992 and 1993, and its first two trips to the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.
These patches will be worn at home and on the road this season to honor the memory of Coach Inglese who tragically passed away this summer. Cathy was also the head coach at Rhode Island from 2009-2014.
