Men's Lacrosse Announces Newcomers for 2015-16 Campaign

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont men's lacrosse program will add 18 newcomers for the 2015-16 season. Head coach Ryan Curtis, the 2015 America East Coach of the Year, made the announcement today.
 
"We are very excited to welcome these 18 young men to the University of Vermont lacrosse family," said Curtis. "This is a diverse group coming from 10 states and two Canadian provinces that has shown the ability to succeed at a high level in the classroom and athletically. I am expecting a very competitive fall."
 
Below is a closer look at the newest Catamounts:
Dawes Milchling, Attack (6-5, 210 lbs) - Cockeysville, Md./St. Paul's School
Scored 34 goals and added 18 assists as a senior in the highly competitive MIAA conference … Played club lacrosse for MLC
 
Jack Knight, Attack (5-10, 183 lbs) - Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick School
Registered 40 points as a senior on 27 goals and 13 assists … Picked up 25 ground balls … Played club lacrosse for the New England Storm
 
Braiden Davis, Midfield (5-10, 170 lbs) – Orangeville, Ontario/McCallie School (Tenn.)
Scored 35 goals and added 18 assists as a senior … Team won the Tennessee State Championship … Named all-region, all-state, and All-American as both a junior and senior … Plays Junior "A" Box Lacrosse for the Orangeville Northmen … Played club lacrosse for LB3 National
 
Charlie Cobb, Midfield (6-0, 170 lbs) - Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick School
Was a two-year starting midfielder for Brunswick  … Scored 20 goals and added two assists as a senior … Played club lacrosse for New England Storm
 
Elliott Mitchell, Midfield (6-4, 185 lbs) - Charlotte, Vt./Champlain Valley Union
Scored 38 goals, added 23 assists and 23 ground balls as a senior at nearby CVU … Selected to play in Twin State All-Star game for lacrosse … Also selected to play in Make a Wish Vermont/New Hampshire All-Star game for hockey … Played club lacrosse for 802 Lacrosse
 
Mark Marciano, Midfield (6-2, 180 lbs) - Searingtown, N.Y./Herricks HS
Scored 52 goals and handed out 41 assists as a senior … Added 24 goals and 30 assists in his junior season … Was a two-year captain … Named to 2015 all-county, team after earning all-county honorable mention honors in 2014 … Selected to the 2015 all-conference academic team … Was an all-conference wide receiver and captain of the football team

MVP of St. Michael's Ontario Provincial Championship Team … Given the Ontario Lacrosse Association's Ted Sawicki  award, that is awarded to the top defensive player in Ontario who has demonstrated a high level of proficiency in lacrosse and sportsmanship … Played box lacrosse in 2014 for Orangeville Junior A ... Currently plays for Mimico Junior A … Played club lacrosse for Edge
 
Mike Dowell, Defense (6-3, 201 lbs) – Georgetown, Ontario/IMG Academy (Fla.)
Helped lead IMG Academy to a No. 6 national ranking in the USA Today Poll … Played club lacrosse for PrimeTime
 
Drew Simeon, Defense (6-1, 175 lbs) – Simsbury, Conn./Westminster School

Starting goalie at Phillips Exeter … Recorded a save percentage of 62 percent in 2015 … Named first-team All-New England … Was selected as the Phillips Exeter Academy Team MVP … Played club lacrosse for 3D New England
 
The Catamounts posted a program-best third place finish in the America East standings and advanced to the conference semifinals. Vermont finished among the top-11 in the country in points, goals, assists, ground balls and saves per game in 2015. UVM set a new record for most league wins in a single season (4) and five players garnered America East postseason honors.
