Spencer Foundation Research Grant Supports Students with Diverse Learning Needs

With support from a Spencer Foundation grant, the UVM College of Education and Social Services is conducting an in-depth study of school-based decision making teams that play a critical role in helping teachers respond to diverse student learning needs. Bishop Receives Highest National Award from Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE)

Dr. Penny Bishop, associate dean, is the recipient of the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) John H. Lounsbury Award for Distinguished Service in Middle Level Education. The highest award offered by AMLE recognizes Dr. Bishop's outstanding scholarship, service, leadership, and contributions to theory and practice in Vermont, nationally, and internationally.  Read more >>

Journal of Higher Education (JHE) Finds New Home at UVM

As the leading scholarly journal on the institution of higher education, the JHE has celebrated nearly 90 years of publications authored by some of America’s leading education researchers, philosophers and teachers. "It’s quite fitting that the Journal finds its new home at the University of Vermont, a venerable public institution directly shaped by many of the most significant actors in American higher education over the last two centuries," said Dean Thomas.  Read more >>

Transforming Leadership Development in Special Education

Dr. Omid Safi's Public Lecture on Racism and Islamophobia Draws Large Community Response

An overflow crowd gathered at UVM to attend Dr. Omid Safi's talk on Racism, Islamophobia and Empire. In light of recent events, Professor of Social Work Dr. Susan Comerford and Amna Bollack MSW '16 invited Dr. Safi to to engage in dialogue with the UVM community amid the current political climate. Dr. Safi, Professor of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and Director of the Islamic Studies Center at Duke University, is an internationally recognized scholar.  Read more >>

Counseling Program Students and Graduates Continue to Shine

For 12 years straight, graduates of the UVM Graduate Counseling Program have a 100 percent pass rate on the rigorous National Counselor Examination, a remarkable streak of sustained excellence.

Congratulations to Dr. Cindy Gerstl-Pepin, associate dean, for her selection as the recipient of the Jackie M. Gribbons Leadership Award presented by Vermont Women in Higher Education (VWHE). Leon Walls loves to challenge his students. He intends for his students to transform the methods of teaching science. As an associate professor of elementary science education at UVM, Dr. Walls works to incorporate sustainability and a sense of stewardship into the science curriculum of young learners. Ed.D. Scholarship Created by Gift from Robert and Donna Carlson

UVM Professor Emeritus Dr. Robert Carlson and his wife Donna understand the importance of developing future educational leaders. To support the advancement of those leaders, they created an Ed.D. scholarship in the College of Education and Social Services.  "The scholarship is our way of giving back to UVM what this fine institution gave to us over the 25 years that we lived in Burlington," Dr. Carlson said.  Read more >>
