CRAFTSBURY COMMONS, Vt. – Alayna Sonnesyn and
Cole Morgan picked up their first career collegiate victories on the final day of racing at the UVM Carnival at Craftsbury Outdoor Center on Sunday.

Complete ResultsThe Catamounts put together a strong day of skiing, however it was not enough to make up a 74-point deficit to Dartmouth. The Big Green captured their second straight carnival with 972 points. The Catamounts finished second overall with 912 points and New Hampshire was third with 723 points.
The women's 10K classic race kicked things off at Craftsbury. Sonnesyn won the event with a time of 28:02.5, beating out Middlebury's Annie Pokorny by a half second despite falling while climbing the final hill to the finish. Lydia Blanchet of Dartmouth, who won the freestyle race on Saturday, rounded out the podium.
Both the Catamounts and Big Green placed three skiers in the top-10 and tied for first in the team standings with 120 points each.
Stephanie Kirk was sixth (28:42.4) and
Iris Pessey finished eighth (28:48.4) to score for Vermont. UVM's
MK Cirelli was just outside the top-10 finishers in 11th place with a time of 29:02.4.
The men's race was shortened from 15-kilometers to 10K. Morgan was able to capture his first win with a time of 23:37.4, beating out teammate Joergen Grav (23:41.5) who was the runner-up for the second straight day. Grav earned a podium spot for the sixth straight race. Dartmouth's Fabian Stocek was the third place finisher with a time of 23:50.0.
Like the women's race, UVM and Dartmouth were fairly even with each team placing four skiers in the top-10, but the 1-2 finish by the Catamounts allowed them to take first in the team standings earning 136 points.
Jack Hegman skied to a sixth place finish and
Remi Salacroup was 10th to round out the top four skiers for Vermont.
The EISA Circuit moves to the Dartmouth Carnival next weekend (Feb. 13-14). The alpine races will be held at the Dartmouth Skiway in Lyme, New Hampshire. The giant slalom starts at 9 a.m. on Friday and the slalom races will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The Nordic races will return to Craftsbury with the classic races scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
NOTES: Morgan and Grav also earned a spot on the SuperTour podium, finishing second and third, respectively. Former Catamount Kris Freeman won the SuperTour race. Fellow Catamount alum
Rogan Brown was also competing in the SuperTour race.
