What is Battle of the Bands?

Battle of the Bands (BOTB) is an opportunity for local student bands and musicians to showcase their talent to the UVM community. Competitors perform over the course of three days in the initial battle rounds. Only four bands advance to the finale, so make sure to vote for your favorites from the preliminary round into the finale!

When is Battle of the Bands 2024?

Bands must be able to play in a preliminary round on either February 26, 27 or 28. Should your band be selected as a finalist, you will also play in the BOTB Finale on April 5.

Who can participate?

Musicians of all genres may apply - we've had a variety of acts participate in the past, from folk duos to hip hop artists, to jam bands. In order to participate bands MUST include at least one UVM undergraduate student, and 50% of the band needs to be comprised of UVM students (undergraduate and graduate)

What is the set length?

Set lengths are 15 minutes. Bands who go over their allotted time will lose points.

How much does it cost? Who can attend?

There is no entry fee for bands. All preliminary battles (February 26, 27 and 28) are free and open to the UVM Community. The finale (April 5) is free for UVM students with their CatCard.

Where is Battle of the Bands taking place?

The preliminary rounds will be in Brennan's Pub in the Dudley H. Davis Center. The finale takes place in the Grand Maple Ballroom in the Dudley H. Davis Center.

What does the winner receive?

The winner of Battle of the Bands will be the opening act for SpringFest on Saturday, April 20th.

What do I have to do to participate?

All bands must register by February 11, 2024 using the online submission form, which will be available on this page shortly. Each act is required to submit a demo.

Submissions are reviewed by the UPB Concerts Committee, and bands will be notified if they have been selected to play a preliminary round by the end of February. Please note that space in preliminary rounds is limited. We do our best to accommodate all acts that submit a demo.

What is technical assistance is provided at the event?

Sound connections, microphones, and lights will be provided, and there will be a sound tech onsite. Bands are required to bring their own equipment/instruments. Depending on the needs of each act, we may also provide a drum kit and bass amp, to ease with transitions.
