A grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) will provide tuition and innovative programming for UVM graduate students to become licensed special educators with specialized knowledge and skills. Graduates will be prepared to serve students with high intensity social-emotional-behavioral needs and emotional disabilities in urban and rurally isolated communities.

The OSEP grant was awarded to Dr. Shana Haines and Dr. Jessica Strolin-Goltzman in the Department of Education at UVM. In addition to training 28 highly-qualified special educators to work in schools facing a special education teacher shortage, C-CROPS also seeks to create a network of educators who are prepared to work collaboratively and employ approaches to sustain their engagement in the profession.

"We've seen that need for years as our projects have worked to improve high school transition, employment, and access to higher education for Vermonters with disabilities. P2P has a great chance to make big change in improving the economic prospects of Vermonters with disabilities as they transition to adulthood.”
